Crossing the border from Croatia, at first it appears abit more run down. But maybe that was just the border town feel of it all.

I love this kind of travel. Sometimes something really trivial teaches you a huge lesson. A garden center. We drove past the "Green Gardner" garden center, a mini-Home Depot. My preconception of Bosnia was basically centered on a few words: War, despair, refugee, and war again. But to see that people are bouncing back, that life goes on, and that people need flowers and nice gardens, that's a real testament to the human spirit.

Later as we travel through Mostar we are overwhelmed by the decade-old destruction that is still EVERYWHERE. Bullet holes, sandbags, rubble. And yet it is a beautiful summer day with people out walking their dogs and having picnics. Not that I was a fan of war before, but it does make you think about what people should be fighting for vs. what they do fight for.

We finally find a hotel, as almost every room in town is taken for...yes this is true...a dog show. People from all over Europe are in town with Afghans and Toy Poodles. We make it to the Old Bridge.
