Bus ride to Nairobi, Train ride to Mombasa, Bus ride to Lamu Port, Boat ride to Lamu Town, Donkey ride to Hotel.
Lamu is history. An old spice (and slave) trading town--it is living curry of people and history. It's Muslim. 100% if you don't count tourist, and there aren't many. It's a mix of Africans, Omanis, and probably just about everything else. Life is slow but seems bustling as the alleyways are overcrowded with people, donkeys, and carts. There is trade everywhere.
It is like a dream, narrow passages ways, vine-like staircases, and every possible smell and color around every corner. It hasn't been ruined...yet.
