This train has been on-again/off-again for many years. I tried to ride it in 2003, to no avail. By pure chance I saw an ad in the paper in Lima that the train was starting to run again. The first few photo s are of the station, then on to the train. There are some other photos of a train from Huancayo to Huancavelica that I took that runs every day. Apparently this town was really critical for it's mercury mines (used in the smelting of silver) during the period when Potosi, Bolivia was the wealthiest place on Earth due to its silver mine. Good trains.
